Breakthroughs in Genomic Engineering

Feng Zhang is a Core Member of the Broad Institute, an Investigator of the McGovern Institute, and the W.M. Keck Career Development Professor in Biomedical Engineering at MIT. He has pioneered several disruptive technologies for biomedical research, including optogenetics and genome engineering using CRISPR. Over 1000 laboratories around the world have already adopted these technologies. His long-term goal is to develop novel therapeutic strategies for diseases of the nervous system. He obtained a B.A. from Harvard and a Ph.D. from Stanford. His work has been widely recognized, including by the Perl/UNC Prize in Neuroscience and the NIH Director’s Pioneer award.
