Kurtis Heimerl is a postdoctoral researcher in the Technology and Infrastructure for Emerging Regions (TIER) research group at University of California, Berkeley, and CEO and founder of Endaga. His work focuses on enabling rural cellular access through empowering local entrepreneurs to set up and manage their own community cellular networks. He has previously worked on education (Metamouse, a system for converting single-player educational games into multiplayer games) and crowdsourcing (Umati, a crowdsourcing vending machine). He received a bachelor's degree in computer engineering from the University of Washington and both a master's degree and a Ph.D. in computer science from UC-Berkeley, working with Professors Eric Brewer and Tapan Parikh.
