Assistant Professor
2014 Innovator Under 35

Earlier this year, Megan McCain became the Gabilan Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Southern California, where she is building her own research group in tissue engineering. She received a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering from Washington University in St. Louis and a Ph.D. in engineering and applied sciences from Harvard University. In graduate school, she used tissue engineering to understand how mechanical forces regulate cardiac development and disease. She continued as a post-doctoral fellow at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard, where she helped develop microscale mimics of cardiac tissue, known as “heart on a chip,” for pharmaceutical screening and personalized medicine.
